Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting your business's computers, data, and online accounts from attacks and unauthorised access. For small businesses, the most important steps are using strong, unique passwords (ideally with a password manager), enabling two-factor authentication on key accounts, keeping software up to date, and training staff to spot phishing emails. A cyberattack can be devastating for a small business, so basic precautions go a long way.

Real-world example

A Tipperary accountancy firm enables two-factor authentication on their email and accounting software after a client in a nearby town was hacked. The extra 10 seconds per login significantly reduces their risk of a breach.
